Whittier lands seven on SCIAC All-Academic Team
LOS ANGELES - The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its 2009 All-Academic Team and the Poets had seven student-athletes recognized by the conference. A total of 82 student-athletes garnered the award from the seven SCIAC programs.
To be eligible for recognition on the All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must maintain an overall grade point average of 3.2 and have started in at least one game during the regular season.
The offensive line led the way for the purple and gold on the All-Academic squad. Second-team all-conference performer Cody McDermott was joined by Alex Durazo and Richard Duran from the men in the trenches.
Senior punter/tight end Garrett Carr landed on the team along with wide out David Harpster, back up quarterback Kelly Maguire and defensive back Travis Driskell.
Claremont-M-S placed a conference-high 22 student-athletes on the team. The Stags were followed by Pomona-Pitzer (16), Occidental (12), Redlands (11) and Whittier, La Verne and conference champions Cal Lutheran with seven.
