Chris Lopez named SCIAC Athlete of the Week

WHITTIER, Calif. – Whittier College sophomore quarterback Chris Lopez was honored this morning as the SCIAC Male Athlete of the Week in the third week of voting.
Lopez who comes from Riverside, Calif. helped lead the Purple and Gold to a 66-48 win over Puget Sound and their first home win since 2008.
Behind his strong dual performance where he was 28-39 passing for 456 yards and four touchdowns, while also rushing for 63 yards and a touchdown, he was the obvious favorite to win the award.
On the female side, freshman forward Taylor Will who plays soccer for Cal Lutheran University grabbed SCIAC Athlete of the Week honors by contributing three goals and two assists in two road victories this past week for the No. 22 ranked Regals. She is currently leading the SCIAC with eight goals and four assists.
Lopez looks to lead a Poet squad against the Tigers of Occidental College in "The Battle of the Shoes", in the friendly confines of Memorial Stadium Saturday, October 1 beginning at 7:00pm.
