WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Men's Basketball Team added a mid-season acquisition to their roster for the 2018-2019 season Thursday in 9-year-old Matthew Ignacio, who comes from Pico Rivera, Calif.
The Whittier College Men's Basketball team was lucky enough to be paired up with Matthew through the Team IMPACT "Draft Day" Ceremony. Team Impact drafts children with life-threatening and chronic illnesses with local college athletic teams in order to provide strength, camaraderie and support for the child.
Yesterday he became an official Poets teammate of the Men's Basketball team, while he courageously battles a Brain Tumor. Matthew signed an official letter of intent to play men's basketball at Whittier College and received an official men's basketball jersey and was issued his own locker inside of the Dan Carvalho Team Room. The Purple & Gold's Top Recruit will become an official member of the Men's Basketball team and as a team member, he will join in Poet practices, games, team dinners, events, and more.
