WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Men's Basketball team put together their most lopsided victory Wednesday night as they rolled the University of La Verne 113-65 inside of the Graham Athletic Center.

For the first time on the season the Purple & Gold hit the 100-point plateau as they open 2019 with a victory moving them to 4-8, 1-2 SCIAC.

13 players saw the court this evening with all of them registering at least a point.  Conner Longmire (Tarzana, Calif.) led the offense finishing with 20-points on 8-of-10 shooting, which included a 4-for-6 mark from deep.  He also added eight boards and a two-handed jam that came down the lane late in the second half.

Kenyatta Louder (Compton, Calif.) added 19 points in 21 minutes of action to go with seven boards and Ahmad Young (Sunnyvale, Calif.) was steady from the floor going 6-for-11, including a 5-for-7 clip from three-point territory for 18 points to go with five assists.

Kyle Price (Rocklin, Calif.) and Nolan Black (Olympia, WA) were too big inside as the size advantage was too much for the Leopards.  Price finished with 10 points and four rebounds and Black added eight points with six boards, two assists and three steals.  Journey Shank (Burbank, Calif.) again ran the point and despite only having four points put out six dimes with a pair of boards.  Freshman Nick Colosi (La Mirada, Calif.) had a big game for the Purple & Gold securing the win down the stretch.  He was in double figures with 10 points, which included a 6-for-9 mark from the charity stripe.  Freshman Chester Lewis (Budapest, Hungary) also saw significant time finishing with seven points and four boards.

Whittier never trailed the entire game.  They jumped in front 7-0 over the first two minutes with Nick Potthoff (Phoenix, AZ) connecting from deep and Louder adding a layup and jumper and they never looked back.  ULV got within seven at 14-7 but WC would stretch their lead to double digits following nine unanswered.  Later in the half the Leopards put together a 9-1 run to pull within nine at the 6:30 mark but that was the closest they would get as Whittier would score 15 of the next 19 points to go on top by twenty.  With 2:41 to play in the half, Whittier continued to pour it on with Longmire adding a triple followed by a pair of Louder layins that gave WC a 55-34 lead at the break.

The second half didn't get any better for the Leopards despite going against the second and third unit for the Poets.  WC still managed to outscore La Verne 58-31, while shooting 60% from the field and 43% from three-point territory.  Longmire went off for 12 points and was joined by Colosi with his 10.

Whittier shot a season high 61% from the field and 50% from three-point territory.  They outrebounded the Leopards 43-31 and turned the ball over just 10 times.  They forced ULV into 16 turnovers and turned them into 21 points and added 58 points in the paint.  They dished out a season high 23 assists and held a lead as many as 52, which came in the final minute of play.

Whittier travels this Saturday, January 5 as they go down to Orange to take on Chapman University beginning at 4:00pm.
