ORANGE, Calif. – The Whittier College golf team won their first head to head matchup of the season against the Panthers of Chapman University Thursday afternoon winning 299-306.
Junior Greg Garcia again led the Poets as he shot a 67 two off of the course record. After playing eleven holes Garcia was -6 on track to break the course record but on holes twelve and thirteen he shot a bogey on each that slimmed his chances down.
Two other Poets shot under 80 including seniors Andrew Moreno-Hunt and Doug Kennedy who each shot 75 and 76, each respectively.
Rounding out the Poet six included Matt Liotta-Butterworth who shot an 81, Ryan Kitabayashi who shot a 90, and Mark Alvarez who finished with a 92.
Whittier looks to use this win to begin preparing for another SCIAC event hosted by Pomona-Pitzer at Via Verde on March 26 beginning at 12pm.
