Poets tie for fourth during SCIAC No. 4

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Whittier College golf team concluded yesterday with a fourth place finish during the SCIAC No. 4 event with an overall score of 295 to finish tied with Redlands.

SCIAC No. 4 took place at Via Verde and was hosted by Pomona-Pitzer.  Whittier finished three shots off the leaders, which included Cal Lutheran and the University of La Verne, while Claremont-M-S finished in third with a 293.

To round out the top eight included Pomona Pitzer (No. 8), Chapman University (No. 7), and Occidental College (No. 8).

The Purple & Gold were led by seniors Doug Kennedy and Andrew Moreno-Hunt who tied for 5th and whom both shot a 71 on the day.  Kennedy shot a 34 on the front nine and a 37 on the back, while Moreno Hunt shot a 36 on the front and a 35 on the back.

Greg Garcia who last week shot two off of the course record at Tustin Ranch during a matchup against Chapman University fell in the middle of the pack of Poets during the SCIAC No. 4 event to finish tied for 14th shooting a 75, which included a 39 on the front nine and a 36 on the back. 

To round out the rest of the Poets included Ryan Kitabayashi who finished tied for 35th, Mark Alvarez who finished tied for 44th and Matt Liotta-Butterworth who finished in 47th.

Whittier who continues to search for a Top 20 national ranking will look towards getting one at the conclusion of their next event which will be this Saturday, March 30 at the California Country Club beginning at 1pm.
