Poets finish sixth after day one of SCIAC Championships

Results: SCIAC Championships Day 1

HEMET, Calif. - Whittier men's golf is currently in sixth place after the opening day of the 2012 SCIAC Championships.

Whittier is locked in the six spot at 302 (+14) two spots behind Occidental College (300) and four spots behind Cal Lutheran (298) and Claremont-M-S (298) who are in striking distance of Redlands who are in second at 294.

La Verne remains atop the leaderboard at 286 and was the only team to shoot under par on the first day of the Championships.    

Doug Kennedy (71) was the top Poet finisher tied for fifth at one under par. Mark Alvarez (76), Greg Garcia (77) and Ricky Macias (78) were four, five and six over par, respectively.

Also competing for Whittier yesterday were Andrew Moreno-Hunt and Matt Liotta-Butterworth who both shot 79. 

Individually, six players were under par with Redlands' Bobby Holden shooting a 67 (-5). 

All teams are competing today, Monday, April 23 at Diamond Valley for the final round of the SCIAC Championships hosted by Occidental.
