WHITTIER, Calif. – It was officially announced Thursday that Doo Kang and Neomi Hunt will be taking over the Whittier College Golf program for the upcoming 2018-19 season.
Kang will become the new Director of Golf/Head Men's Coach, while Hunt will serve as the Head Women's Coach.
Kang served as the assistant coach for the men's team under Jason Nunez last season. Doo was born in Korea and moved to the states at the age of six. He is bilingual in Korean and English and picked up the game of golf at age 14. Golf has been a big part of his life since then. After graduating high school, he then traveled across the country and overseas to various countries in Asia to play professionally.
He has two years of experience in sales and custom club fitting for Plaza Golf in Torrance. He was also the assistant coach for the South Torrance High School boys and girls teams before moving over to assist the boy's golf team at Malibu High School. He has also worked junior camps and did private lessons at a high tech indoor facility (Golf Excellence).
Neomi joins the Whittier College Athletic Department as the new Head Women's Golf Coach after serving a two-year stint at the University of La Verne as their Head Coach. During that time she was a graduate assistant earning her MBA in Business and Public Health, while focusing on Leadership Studies.
She is a graduate of Cal State Fullerton '13 where she majored in Communications and was a part of the golf program. She capped off her career with the Titans playing all nine events her senior season with a 77.93 average with a career best round of 71 at the Big West Championships.
