WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Men's Lacrosse team hosted a sneak peak of their new locker room.

The Project

Whittier College Athletics has relocated and expanded its Men's Lacrosse locker room and the "Locker's Lockers" which were designated in honor of Doug Locker, the founder of Poet Lacrosse.  In the summer of 2018, the facility was moved to the Graham Athletic Center and upgrades included an Athlete Lounge where players can gather between classes, a Film Study Center for film review and game strategy sessions, and 44 Lacrosse Lockers.  The room is also outfitted with medical grade carpet and custom wall graphics that honor the proud legacy of Poet Lacrosse.

The Impact

As the only NCAA Division III team on the West Coast, Poet Men's Lacrosse is truly unique.  When you add Whittier's great education and the Southern California weather, it's no wonder that the program is attractive to high-caliber student-athletes.

Quality facilities are essential to the recruitment of top scholar athletes and the ongoing competitiveness of any athletic program.  For Poet Lacrosse' 2019 season, growing the roster to 40+ men will be a critical success.  This project will enable the program to accommodate a large team.

The larger locker room will provide the team with a functional, yet flexible space in which to conduct team business and prepare for competition.  The planned aesthetic enhancements will instill a sense of pride and connection to the heritage of the program.  Furthermore, relocating the locker room to the Graham Athletic Center will give student-athletes easier access to showers, the training room, and the Center's cardio and weight rooms.

How to Support

They hope you will build the future of the program by participating in this important renovation effort.  Naming opportunities are available to individuals contributing at the following levels:

Locker Room - $40,000

Student-Athlete Lounge - $10,000

Film Study Center - $5,000

Individual Locker - $1,000

All donors of $500 or more will be recognized on a plaque that will be placed in the new locker room.

Upgrades

Study Area & Film Center
A key addition to the new locker room will be a film study area where the team can break down footage and strategize prior to games.  The space will be outfitted with a smart TV, white board, and stools for the players.

Healthcare Flooring
The locker room flooring will be completely replaced with healthcare carpeting.  This nonporous, antibacterial material is durable, attractive, and will minimize the risk of staph infection.

Custom Lacrosse Lockers
44 custom-made wooden lockers will be installed.  Each unit will include a single-door front, coat rod, shelves, and hook to hold helmets and jerseys.

Student-Athlete Lounge
The lounge will offer comfortable custom seating, a TV, and a space for players to gather and study between classes and prior to practice.  This informal space will be heavily utilized by student-athletes who commute to campus.
