Whittier releases 2010 men's soccer schedule

WHITTIER, Calif. – In addition to its full conference schedule, the Whittier College men’s soccer team has added 2009 NCAA Tournament participants Chapman University to its non-conference slate as head coach Paul Walmsley officially released the Poets’ 2010 schedule today.
Whittier will play a pair of NAIA schools to open the season on September 1 and September 4, respectively, before its big showdown with the Panthers on Wednesday, September 8. Last season, Chapman finished 11-5-2 and lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to Whitworth, 2-0.
The Poets will play host to NAIA Concordia (Calif.) on Saturday, September 11, before they open their conference portion of their schedule.
The first SCIAC game of the season will be against the defending regular season SCIAC champions, Pomona-Pitzer, and will mark the fourth game of a four-game home stand for the purple and gold. The Poets and Sagehens will square off on September 15.
Whittier travel to Claremont-M-S on the ensuing Saturday to mark its first road contest since the first game of the season against SOKA.
WC will face rival Occidental on the road on September 29 and will host the Tigers on October 23, will play the Kingsmen on the friendly confines of the Donald E. Graham Soccer Field on October 2 and will travel to Thousand Oaks on October 27 and will have its much anticipated rubber match with Redlands on the road on October 6. The Poets will host the Bulldogs in the regular season finale on October 30.
This year’s SCIAC Tournament will take place on Thursday, November 4, with the championship to be held on Saturday, November 6.
