THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The Whittier College men's swimming and diving team fought hard but fell shy of snapping its five meet skid as Cal Lutheran held of the purple and gold to earn a 128-101 win on Saturday morning in the regular-season finale for the two SCIAC rivals.

The first event of the day on the men's side was a sign of how competitive the meet would be. CLU held on by less than a second in the 400 Medley Relay to claim first-place honors.

The team of Juan Aguilar, Damon Chandler, Michael Eachus and John Adams finished in 3:48.99 while the Kingsmen took the event in 3:48.10.

Aguilar started the race for the Poets with a 59.31 in the Back. Chandler hit the water and erased a two second deficit with a 1:03.82 in the Breast but Cal Lu battled back over the final two legs to pull out the victory. Eachus swam a 55.95 in the Fly and Adams came in at 50.55 in the Free.

The Poets got back into the meet with a first and third place finish in the 200 Free. Will Jackson swam a 1:51.48 to earn top points in the event while Cameron Rehm finished just off the second place pace with a 1:52.56. Second place was timed at 1:52.41.

Chandler and Alex Perry went two-three in the 200 IM with times of 2:13.44 and 2:13.99, respectively, and Eachus, Tom Hyden and Aguilar went two-three-four in the 100 Fly.

Eachus swam a 57.12, Hyden a 59.05 and Aguilar a 1:00.73 to total nine points for Whittier in the event.

Aguilar and Eachus return to the top four in the 100 Back and were joined by Ryan Rock who finished fourth. Aguilar's 1:01.74 earned second place honors, Eachus' 1:06.56 was good enough for third and Rock came in at fourth in 1:08.63.

Rehm finished just off the winning pace in the 500 Free with a 5:05.08. The winning time was 5:04.47.

Chandler rounded out the individual events with a first place finish in the 100 Breast. He finished over two seconds ahead of the second place finisher with a 1:03.60.
