Poets conclude SCIAC Championships; Bring home two first place finishes

SOUTH GATE, Calif. – The Whittier College men's and women's swimming & diving teams concluded Day 3 of the SCIAC Championships, as the men jumped up a spot to finish 5th with a score of 311 while the women stayed put in 6th with a score of 297.
Claremont-M-S took home the SCIAC Championship titles in both men and women, while CMS also swept the official SCIAC championship, which combines regular season meet results and performances in the SCIAC Championships. Redlands and Pomona-Pitzer tied for second on the women's side, while Redlands was second and Pomona-Pitzer third on the men's.
Despite the sixth place finish, future Whittier College hall of famer junior Erin Bartholomew impressed yet again as she opened up Day 3 with a first place finish in the 1650 free with a time of 17:27.89 fifteen seconds in front of the second place finisher, while at the same time defending her Championship.
Freshman Evelyn Beguiristain also finished strongly as she took home second place in the 200 fly with a time of 2:10.36.
A week prior senior Tyler Aisner brought home a first place finish in the 1M dive during the SCIAC Diving Championships with an overall score of 505.75 breaking the Whittier College record that was set by George Wilson who had held it previously back in 1983 with a score of 482.55.
During the Swimming & Diving Championships, Whittier College collected two first place finishes, two second place finishes, and a third place finish to complete their 2011-12 season.
