Three Poets earn All-SCIAC recognition
WHITIER, Calif. – The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference released the other day the 2011-12 Men's & Women's Swimming and Diving All-SCIAC teams and Whittier had three athletes obtain All-SCIAC honors including Tyler Aisner, Erin Bartholomew , and Evelyn Beguiristain.
The All-SCIAC Teams are made up of all swimmers and divers who finished in the top three of their respective events.
From the men's side we had Aisner a senior diver who grabbed individual recognition in the SCIAC Championships by winning the 1M dive with a score of 505.75, while finishing third in the 3M dive with a score of 410.25. By winning the 1M dive, Aisner broke the previous record held at Whittier College by George Wilson who had set the record back in 1983 with a score of 482.55. Now with this record broken, Aisner now holds all four diving records at Whittier College.
On the women's side, the Poets had sophomore Bartholomew grab individual recognition by winning the SCIAC Championships 1650 free with a time of 17:27.89 fifteen seconds in front of the second place finisher, while at the same time defending her Championship from a year prior. She also finished third in the 400 IM with a time of 4:39.36, tenths of a second off of the second place finisher. Lastly, she took home a third place finish in the 500 free with a time of 5:06.26.
Freshman Beguiristain, who comes from Paradise Valley, AZ impressed all season long and finished her first year off in impressive fashion finishing in second place in the 200 fly with a time of 2:10.36. During her freshman campaign she also broke two school records including the 200 IM (2:15.24), and the 200 fly (2:14.70) and won SCIAC Athlete of the Week honors during the thirteenth week of voting.
