Poet’s men’s tennis rises to No. 22 in the country


WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College men's tennis team climbed four spots to No. 22 on the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III National Rankings.

As one of five Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) programs to be included on the national poll, Whittier comes in with the fourth highest ranking among the group.

Claremont-M-S (No. 1)

Cal Lutheran (No. 4)

Redlands (No. 12)

Whittier (No. 22)

Pomona-Pitzer (No. 24)

In addition, the Poets are ranked No. 8 in the West Region, according to the March 28 announcement.

Individually, senior Julian Seneviratne (Marietta, GA) leads the Purple & Gold as the top singles competitor at 10th in the region, while freshman David Konstantinov (San Francisco, CA) comes in at No. 14. 

In doubles, Seneviratne and Konstantinov still sit at No. 12 in the country and No. 6 in the West Region, while junior duo Chris Schommer and Andrew Hansen get their first ranking of the season coming in at No. 14.

The Poets who stunned Pomona-Pitzer in an 8-1 victory last week look towards another big match-up with the University of Redlands this afternoon beginning at 2pm.
