WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College men's tennis team continues to climb the Intercollegiate Tennis Association National rankings coming in at No. 19 in this week's polls.
The Poets started the year off at No. 26 and then bounced between No. 27 and No. 26 in the rankings for a few weeks before jumping four spots to No. 22 after they stunned Pomona-Pitzer who was No. 22 at the time. Then in the latest polls released this week, the Purple & Gold jumped three more spots to No. 19 after their tight 5-4 loss to No. 4 Cal Lutheran University last week.
The highest the Poets ever reached was No. 16, which came last year in 2012 and they seek to get higher than that with two matches remaining on their regular season schedule followed by the SCIAC Championships.
Whittier is 9-8 on the season and 3-2 in SCIAC play and have won two of their last three matches with a big match-up coming against No. 1 Claremont-M-S tomorrow, April 13 beginning at 10:00am on the Richard Ettinger Tennis Courts.
