WHITTIER, Calif. – On a blistering 100 degree day in Whittier, the Stags and Kingsmen prevailed set to faceoff in the SCIAC Championship final tomorrow beginning at 10:00am.

The Kingsmen ranked No. 5 in the national polls look to avenge their earlier loss to No. 1 CMS, which was their lone loss in SCIAC play this season.

The opening rounds included all 5-0 decisions except for the matchup between No. 4 Whittier and No. 5 Pomona-Pitzer.  This match went the distance but ended in a 5-4 upset victory for the Sagehens forcing the Poets to play in the 5th place game tomorrow against Chapman.

The second round saw a match-up against No. 2 Cal Lutheran and No. 3 Redlands in one of two semi-finals but after a sweep in doubles, the Kingsmen left little doubt that they belong in the final after cruising to the 7-2 victory.

After a convincing 8-1 win by the Stags over Pomona-Pitzer in the other semi-final, Chapman then stepped up with a big 5-4 victory over Occidental avenging their earlier loss to the Tigers.

The field is now set for the final day of the SCIAC Championships with Claremont-M-S taking on Cal Lutheran in the SCIAC Championship  match joined by Pomona-Pitzer and Redlands facing off in the 3rd Place match.  Both matches will be taking place at Whittier Narrows.

In the 5th place match the Poets will take on Chapman at Whittier College and then in the 7th place match-up Occidental will take on Caltech at Palm Park.

All matches will occur at 10:00am followed by a lunch and All-SCIAC awards at Whittier College at 1:00pm.
