CLAREMONT, Calif. – Sophomore David Konstantinov (San Francisco, Calif.) continued where he left off last season earning a spot in the ITA Fall West Regional Singles Final this past weekend coupled with an appearance in the double semi-finals with partner Chris Schommer (Greeley, CO).
Konstantinov and Schommer who both earned spots on the All-SCIAC team last year proved to be the front runners on the Poets men's tennis squad as they helped lead the program to a successful ITA Fall West Regional Tournament.
Konstantinov came into the tournament seeded No. 5 in singles. He defeated five different opponents from Claremont-M-S (Glenn Hull – 6-0, 6-1), Cal Lutheran (Rudy Bukich – 6-4, 6-2), Redlands (Taylor Hunt – 6-6 (Ret.) Despite falling in the opening rounds in singles in tough matchups the rest of the Poet field fared well in the back draw led by sophomore Samuel Farmer (Carlsbad, Calif.) who earned victories over Sam Crawford (Pomona-Pitzer) 6-3, 7-5, and Jesse Knight (Cal Lutheran) 6-3, 4-1 Ret., before falling to Kevin Wei (Pomona-Pitzer) 6-4, 7-6 in the quarterfinals.
