WHITTIER, Calif. – The International Tennis Association this past week announced the pre-season National and Regional rankings and the Whittier College men's tennis team came out ranked No. 21 in the National polls and No. 9 in the West Region.
These spots are the same as where the Poets left off at the conclusion of last year, the only change are in individual rankings where sophomore David Konstantinov (San Francisco, Calif.) is now ranked No. 11 in the country in singles and No. 4 in the West Region.
He is also ranked in doubles with partner Chris Schommer (Greeley, CO) who both sit at No. 23 in the country No. 7 in the West Region.
Whittier looks to move up in the rankings when the regular season commences as they take on one of the toughest schedules in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with teams including Div. I Villanova, Div. II UC San Diego and Sonoma State, NAIA powerhouse Vanguard along with ranked opponents No. 2 Claremont-M-S, No. 3 Amherst, No. 7 Cal Lutheran, No. 12 UC Santa Cruz, No. 14 Redlands, No. 15 UT Texas-Tyler, No. 16 Whitman, No. 17 Pomona-Pitzer, and No. 23 Bates.
