Poets make quick work of Wheaton (MA) 8-1

WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Men's Tennis team extended their winning streak to five matches Thursday as they rolled to the lopsided 8-1 victory over Wheaton College (MA) at the Richard Ettinger Tennis Courts. 

The Purple & Gold put the Lyons in an early hole with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.  Troy Chavez (Temecula, Calif.) and Chris Palacio (El Centro, Calif.) took out Zeff and Aguirre Martinez 8-3, while Maxwell Koszowski (Denver, CO) and Zachary Ambrosio (Moreno Valley, Calif.) made quick work of Roosevelt and Garcia Anten 8-2.

The lone win for the Lyons came at No. 1 as Hunter Kettering (Pleasanton, Calif.) and Elmer Van Butselaar (Veenendaal, Netherlands) would drop a tight 9-7 decision to Gwinn and Ryser.

In singles the Poets continued their domination sweeping the competition all in straight sets.  Andrew You (Arcadia, Calif.) made his appearance at the top spot winning 6-2, 6-3, which then led to the spiral affect with Van Butselaar taking out Ryser 6-4, 6-3, Kettering winning 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3, Palacio, the southpaw working Zeff at No. 4 with a 6-2, 6-0 mark, while Ambrosio and Jehan Godrej (Los Altos, Calif.) got action at the bottom winning at No. 5 (6-1, 6-4) and No. 6 (6-3, 6-0), each respectively.
