Curbelo and Jungsten lead Poets to strong finish in Pomona-Pitzer Invite

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Whittier College men's track and field team again competed well for the third straight meet finishing with two first place finishes from Kevin Curbelo and Alex Jungsten.

Curbelo set the standard for Whittier as he won the 400 meter in a tie with a time of 48.10 keeping pace for yet another NCAA Championship appearance, while Jungsten won his heat of the 100 meter in 11.42.

Others who competed well included Kimble Tillman who finished with another 10.83 time in the 100 meter to place 6th out of 94 runners. Caleb Carillo ran a 23.21 in the 200 meter followed closely by Scott Mele who finished with a time of 23.54.

Maxwell Braseth PRed in the 400 meter with a time of 53.99, while distance runner Kyle Feuerhelm placed 5th in his heat in the 1500 with a 4:10.92.

Nathaniel Smauley rounded out the distance runners finishing with a 15:43.61 in the 5000 meter, and Brandon Wilcox placed 4th overall in the shot put with a mark of 47' 3.5".

The next meet for Whittier will be the SOKA Peace Invitational, which will take place next Saturday, April 21 being the last tune -up before the SCIAC Conference Championships.
