Poets land three on WWPA All-Academic Team

WWPA All-Academic Team

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Western Water Polo Association announced the 2011 WWPA Men's All-Academic Teams and Whittier College had three players selected out of 116 student-athletes including Eric Bonander, Kyle Catino, and Keary Schlactus.

The team consists of members who carried a 3.0 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale), played in at least 50-percent of the team's contests in the sports respective season and was classified as a full-time student who has completed a minimum of one semester or two quarters at his institution.

Bonander who is in his junior year with the Poets comes to Whittier College from Turlock, Calif. and was a utility player for Head Coach Justin Pudwill and completed the season with 9 goals on 19 attempts, 12 assists, 22 drawn ejections, and 11 steals.

Catino who is following in his older brothers footsteps here at Whittier College is in his first season with the Poets and had a stellar year at attacker finishing the 2011 season with 31 goals on 58 attempts, 8 assists, 19 drawn ejections, and 28 steals.  He was also selected as an ACWPC All-American this season. 

Schlactus who is the lone senior out of this group comes to Whittier from Newberg, Ore. and finished his final season with the Poets in impressive fashion and proved to be a big contributor on offense as he finished the 2011 season with 34 goals on 79 attempts, 15 assists, 10 drawn ejections, and 22 steals.
