PASADENA, Calif. – The Whittier College Men's Water Polo team extended their winning streak to five games Saturday morning as they rolled past the California Institute of Technology 20-11 as they improve to 16-10, 5-1 SCIAC.
With the win the Poets have now won five of their last six and remain in sole possession of second place in the conference standings.
Whittier held a 5-2 advantage after the first eight minutes and led 9-4 at the break before outscoring the Beavers 11-7 in the second half.
Marko Monic (Zagreb, Croatia) led the Purple & Gold with six goals on the morning. Nick Hyden (Melbourne, Aus.) registered four, while Zane Janich (Sacramento, Calif.) and Tucker Vejsicky (Irvine, Calif.) each finished with three apiece.
Immediately following the contest, Whittier moved over to Division I and No. 1 ranked UCLA for their final non-conference game of the season and saw their winning streak end as they fell 18-5 to the Bruins.
Whittier wraps up their 2016 regular season this week with two home games. The first against Chapman University on Wednesday, November 9 at 7:00pm and then Senior Night against Occidental College on Saturday, November 12 beginning at 7:00pm.
