CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Whittier College Softball team picked up a big win Saturday as they split with Claremont-M-S on the road falling 3-0 in game one before taking game two 5-1.

Game 1 (L, 3-0)

Whittier was no hit in the first game as Anna Gurr silenced the Poet bats.  She went a complete game giving up two walks, while striking out four.

The three runs for CMS came in the 3rd as they strung together five hits with singles coming from Troutman and Heydenber.

Annika Seedborg (Hawaiian Gardens, Calif.) got the start and went 3.0 innings giving up the three runs on seven hits.

Game 2 (W, 5-1)

Whittier got after the Athenas in the second game for five runs on nine hits.  The Purple & Gold added runs in the 1st and 2nd to go in front.  Natalia Sanchez (Chino Hills, Calif.) grounded out bringing in the first run and Kaitlyn Garza would come in on a wild pitch in the 2nd.

Whittier plated another three in the 4th that opened the game up thanks to three hits from Ally Fonseca (Pico Rivera, Calif.), Brianna Alvarez (Montebello, Calif.), and Marialena Ahern (Fremont, Calif.).

CMS got one back in the bottom half of the 4th with Halle singling to right but that's the only offense generated by the Athenas as Samantha Blum (San Jose, Calif.) would throw the next three innings scoreless en route to picking up her fifth win on the season.  She threw a complete game giving up one unearned run on six hits.

Alvarez finished 2-3 with two runs scored.  Sierra Rodriguez (Whittier, Calif.) was 2-3 scoring once and Fonseca was 2-3 coming across once.  Ahern was thrown around as she finished 1-2 with two runs batted in and two walks.
