Track & Field has record breaking performances at All-Comers

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Whittier College Men's and Women's Track & Field teams competed in the Pomona All-Comers meet this past weekend and combined to put up 17 Top 10 finishes.

Julian Sandoval (El Monte, Calif.) was one of a number of breakout performances during the meet finishing 4th in the 3000m with a time of 8:40.84, which broke the school record (not including converted 2mile).

Benjamin White (Whittier, Calif.) joined him in the 3000m event and moved to 7th on the All-Time Lists (not including converted 2mile).  Garrett Silva (Whittier, Calif.) had a nice day on the Pole Vault going 4.40 to finish 4th, moving him to 3rd All-Time on the Whittier College Top 10 list.   

Other Top 10 finishes on the day on the men's side included Gabriel Pridgen-Daniels (Sacramento, Calif.) in the 400m going 51.21 (10th), Hakim Williams Jr. (Riverside, Calif.) in the 110H with a 15.60 (6th), Ty'Reke James-Quinney (Richmond, Calif.) in the LJ with a mark of 6.27 (10th), and Craig Rogers (Whittier, Calif.) in the 110H (15.87 – 8th) and HJ (1.80m – 6th).

Julissa Tobias solidified her mark in the 3000m with a time of 10:27.26, finishing 4th.  This was good enough to place her 3rd on the All-Time Top 10 list.  Jessica Iribe (Buena Park, Calif.) joined her in the event going 10:33.38 for 6th and that moved her to 4th on the All-Time Top 10 List.  Piper Lowinger (Whittier, Calif.) in the 100mH posted a time of 15.38 (6th) moving her to 3rd All-Time in the record books.

Freshman Elyse Espe (Wishon, Calif.) took part in her first collegiate meet and ran to a 9th place finish in the 400mH with a time of 1:08.62.  This mark was good enough to put her 5th All-Time in the record books.  Hannah Duran-Wright (Palm Springs, Calif.) moved into the Whittier College record books in both the LJ and TJ.  She went 5.28 in the LJ (7th) and 10.43 in the TJ.  She is now 3rd All-Time in the LJ and 2nd All-Time in the TJ.                  

In the throws, Sabrina Van Beek (Atascadero, Calif.) entered the All-Time Top 10 in the discus after placing 6th overall with a throw of 34.30.  She moves to 6th All-Time in just her first outdoor meet.  She also had another Top 10 finish at the meet going 6th in the Shotput with a mark of 10.21.  Joining her was Christina Prieto (La Mirada, Calif.) who threw a 9.07 in the shotput finishing 10th at the meet.

Freshman Caitlin Greenup (Hacienda Heights, Calif.) took part in her first collegiate meet and moves into a tie for 5th in the TJ in the All-Time record books. 

Two more Top 10 finishes on the weekend on the women's side included Tiazha Hogue (Redlands, Calif.) in the 400m going 1:03.58 (5th) and Chelsea Connolly (Brea, Calif.) in the 800m with a 2:26.51 (8th).
