WHITTIER, Calif. – Senior distance runners Julissa Tobias (Norwalk, Calif.) and Jessica Iribe (Cypress, Calif.) saw their 2018 season continue Saturday as they earned a berth into the 2018 Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
They now travel to the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse on May 24-26 at the Veteran's Memorial Field Sports Complex inside Roger Harring Stadium. The top 20 men and the top 22 women declared into each event qualify for the national meet, while the top 16 declared relays, one per institution, also advance.
Tobias earns a spot in the National Championships for the second year in a row again qualifying in the 5000m. This year she is ranked No. 21 with a seed time of 17:00.79. She currently holds the Whittier College school record in the event, which she broke this year.
Iribe caps off a stellar career earning a spot in the NCAA Division III National Championships for the first time as she will go compete in the 10000m. She currently ranks 20th with a time of 36:12.80 and like Tobias holds the Whittier College school record, which she too broke this year. This record she earned would have even won her the Division I Big West Title, which was the same weekend
A complete list of the competing student-athletes is available at the NCAA's timing website. Results will also be posted here.
