WHITTIER, Calif. - The end of the year Division III National Rankings came out earlier this week for Women's Golf and Whittier College saw themselves finish No. 33 according to Golfstat.
Despite a strong push during the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships, where they edged No. 25 Cal Lutheran University by a stroke to finish 3rd overall, it wasn't enough to push the Purple & Gold up in the final SCIAC Standings as they finished 5th overall. The difference between 3rd-4th-5th was seven strokes.
The highest ranking the Poet program has achieved was back in 2016 when they moved up to No. 19.
On the year the Poets shot a single round team low of a 310 during the CA State Intercollegiate and then followed that up with a 312 performance during the CMS Invite. Their highest team finish was placing 2nd overall in the CMS Invite and 2nd in a quad match with Chapman, Pomona-Pitzer and Occidental.
In individual rankings, Whittier was led by sophomore Taylor Beckwith (Turlock, Calif.) who capped off her year being named 2nd Team All-SCIAC for the second year in a row. She comes in ranked No. 55 with a 79.06 average with a season low round of 66, which was a school record. She was joined in the rankings by junior Kajal Vitha (Whittier, Calif.) who was consistent all season finishing on the 2nd Team All-SCIAC, while earning a ranking of No. 67. She averaged a 79.33 with a season low round of 70.
Other SCIAC schools who achieved a National Ranking included Division III National Champion Claremont-M-S (No. 1), Pomona-Pitzer (No. 14), Cal Lutheran (No. 25), Chapman (No. 36), Redlands (No. 45), and Occidental (No. 55).
