Mukai named 1st Team All-West Region by IWLCA

IWLCA All-Regional Teams

GRAND LAKE, Colo. – Junior Carolyn Mukai added to her trophy case Thursday as the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) named the midfielder an All-West Region first-team selection for the second straight year.

Mukai was among the 224 Division III student-athletes recognized on one of seven All-Region teams.

The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference had nine West Region performers highlighted by four first-team honorees.

Mukai played in and started in 16 games for the Poets and ranked first on the team with 52 goals. She dished out a team and conference high 29 assists for a SCIAC best 1.81 assists per game and was second in SCIAC in points/game with 81. 

A native of Northborough, Mass., she recorded a conference leading 54 groundballs for a 3.38 average and won 88 draw controls putting her second in SCIAC.

At the conclusion of the 2012 year she also garnered 1st Team All-SCIAC honors marking the third straight year she has achieved this feat. 

Mukai was joined on the first-team by fellow SCIAC athletes Victoria Larson of Occidental, Pomona-Pitzer's Martha Marich, and Redlands Megan Prickett.  On second team, SCIAC was represented by Ali Abramovitz and Madison Shove from Claremont, M-S, and Katherine Colasurdo, Jacy Craycraft,and  Kathryn McCaslin from Redlands.    

This is the third year in a row that Mukai has been named to the All-West Region team. During her freshman season she was a second-team honoree and last year she received first team honors.

In three seasons with the purple and gold, Mukai has combined for 173 goals and 85 assists for 258 points.
