WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Lacrosse team saw their game cut short Wednesday evening due to physical play in an 11-5 loss to the University of Redlands.
The Poets trailed 11-5 despite putting together a tough fight in the early stages of the game. O'Grady finished a free position at the 18:38 mark in the first half that tied up the game and Lexie Meanor (Sewickley, PA) came down a little while later to add her first of the game that moved the score to 3-2.
This score would remain until the final 1:25 of the half when UR would tack on three unanswered, which included a last second goal that made the score 6-2 at the break.
Out of the break Meanor would add a quick strike that cut the margin in half. Redlands provided a miscue scoring on their own goal after an errant pass and O'Grady would come down minutes later and would tally another free position goal that pulled the Poets within two.
But that's as close as they would get as UR would then go on to add four straight.
Whittier was outshot on the game 21-18, was 2-8 on free positions, was 12-14 on clear attempts and picked up just six draw controls.
Meanor and O'Grady each finished with goals, while O'Grady added an assist. Emily Hansen (Seal Beach, Calif.) despite not scoring added three groundballs, two draw controls, and four caused turnovers. She was joined by Nicole Lindke (Pleasanton, Calif.) on defense who caused three turnovers.
Madison Topping (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) played between the posts and totaled seven saves against 18 shots.
Whittier returns to action on the road, today, Saturday, April 15 as they take on Claremont-M-S beginning at 1:00pm.
