WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Lacrosse team remained in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play Saturday morning as they took on the Athenas of Claremont-M-S, ranked No. 23 in the Division III polls.

The Athenas used a big first half shutting out the Purple & Gold 13-0, while outshooting them 32-1.  But the Poets would bounce back in the second finding the back of the goal three times on four shots from Lexie Meanor (Sewickley, PA), Nicole Lindke (Pleasanton, Calif.), and Neely O'Grady (Lorton, VA), while holding the high-octane offense of CMS to just seven goals over the final 30:00 minutes.

Madison Topping (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) had her best game of the season finishing with 17 saves, while picking up two groundballs.  Whittier finished 13-of-24 on clear attempts and picked up 19 groundballs for the game.

Claremont-M-S had the edge on draw controls at 20-4 and outshot the Poets 52-5.

Whittier (0-3, 0-3 SCIAC) remains at home tomorrow, Wednesday, March 7 when they host Occidental College beginning at 7:00pm.
