ORANGE, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Lacrosse team returned to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action Saturday as they took on Chapman University.
Whittier has now dropped three of their last four as they move to 2-7, 0-5 SCIAC following a 21-8 loss to the Panthers.
Chapman opened the game up on a 6-0 run before WC would find the back of the goal twice from Emily Hansen (Seal Beach, Calif.) and Lexie Meanor (Sewickley, PA). Noelle Tamas (Granite Bay, Calif.) tacked on a free position a minute later to cut the deficit to four but CU would then bounce back with three of their own to go back on top by seven.
The Purple & Gold attempted a comeback before the break with three of the final four goals from Hansen, Tamas, and Neely O'Grady (Lorton, VA) to move the score to 11-6 but that's as close as Whittier would get as CU would outscore the Poets 10-2 in the second half en route to the 21-8 victory.
Madison Topping (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) picked up the loss collecting eight saves against 26 shots.
Whittier was outshot on the game 37-12, was 8-for-23 on clear attempts, was 3-for-5 on free positions and picked up 15 groundballs. O'Grady led the offense with two goals and three assists, while grabbing five draw controls. Hansen added three goals with two draw controls and Tamas added two goals, four groundballs, and five draw controls.
Whittier returns to the field tomorrow night, Monday, March 26 when they get back to non-conference games with a match-up against George Fox University beginning at 7:00pm.
