WHITTIER, Calif. – The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced this afternoon the All-SCIAC teams and the Poets landed freshman Madison Shipherd and senior Stephanie Bergstrom to the 2nd Team.

This marks the third straight season a Poet landed on an All-SCIAC team, in 2010 Breann Yamada made 1st Team All-SCIAC, while senior Shelly Johiro collected 2nd Team Honors.  In 2009, Yamada again grabbed 1st Team recognition, while Amanda Martinez grabbed 2nd Team honors.

Bergstrom, one of six seniors who comes from Riverside, CA, was a catalyst on the defensive side of the ball.  She helped lead our defensive unit on a daily basis.  Bergstrom finished the 2011 season starting 16 games recording 17 shots, one assist and collecting one goal coming against Cal Lutheran University who had not been scored upon all season at that point.

Shipherd, a freshman and Whittier native, graduate of La Serna High School paced the Poets all season long as she started in 14 games taking 49 shots, while tallying five goals and three assists to help start her collegiate career off with a bang.

"I am extremely proud of the efforts of both of these young ladies who were recognized by other coaches within the SCIAC.  Stephanie was a consistent competitor for us this season, one who played with her heart on her sleeve and did everything keeping the best interest of the team in mind.  She is a true representation of what this program is striving to become.  Madison joined our program with an excellent soccer background, possessing great knowledge of the game and the ability to make an immediate impact.  She was one of our leaders offensively from the midfield and forward position who created opportunities for herself and her teammates, making sure that opponents knew she was ready to compete at every game." - Coach Gerardo
