Bergstrom and Wessel earn All-SCIAC Academic Honors
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced their Academic Team for women's soccer and Whittier College landed two players including Megan Wessel and Stephanie Bergstrom.
The All-Academic Team is made up of student-athletes who have at least a 3.40 cumulative grade point average at his/her current institution, must have completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution, and must have reached sophomore athletic eligibility. In the case of transfers, graduate students, and two-year college graduates, the student-athlete must have completed one full calendar year at the nominating institution.
Bergstrom who hails from Riverside, Calif. finished her senior year in impressive fashion earning second team All-SCIAC honors by anchoring a defensive unit starting 16 games recording 17 shots, one assist and collecting one goal, which came against Cal Lutheran University who had not been scored upon all season at that point.
Wessel, who is from Golden, CO finished her senior year playing in twelve contests, recording three goals on nine shots with six of them being on goal. She came to Whittier as a goalie and played there her first three years until moving to forward her last season.
Her breakout game came against Occidental College on senior day where she recorded two goals to help push the Poets past the Tigers 4-1. Her other goal came against Chapman early in the season and it was the lone goal scored during the game for the Poets in the loss.
