Thoreson wins in distance but Regals take meet

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Sophomore Katrina Thoreson put forth a dominating effort in the 1650 Free on Saturday morning against Cal Lutheran but it was the Regals who stole the show as they beat the Poets 170-54 in the regular season finale.

Thoreson cruised in the event with a winning time of 19:53.91. Her fastest split was a 32.52 on the opening stretch which was only beaten by fellow sophomore Megan Maguire-Marshall (31.74).

Maguire-Marshall finished second in the event with a 20:09.56. The two Poets earned the purple and gold a total of 13 points for the event.

Junior Sara Wolff took home a pair of second place finishes in the 50 Free and 100 Free. In the short sprint she clocked in at 27.50 which held off teammate Sarah Peel (28.16) and in the longer of the sprints she beat out with Kristin Hallsted (59.37) with a 58.85.

Senior Indre Lauraitis rolled to a second place finish in the 100 Back. She maintained her second position throughout the race with a 32.89 on the first split and a 34.58 on the second. Her final time of 1:07.47 was nearly three seconds better than the third place finisher.

The swimmers will take a weekend off before they return to the water for the 2009 SCIAC Championships held at Belmont Plaza on February 21-23. Next weekend the divers will take part in the preliminaries at the University of Redlands.
