Poets finish 8th in final day of UNLV Winter Invitational

LAS VEGAS, NV – The women's swimming & diving team concluded the UNLV Winter Invitational finishing 8th out of thirteen teams in front of Fresno State, Concordia, Chapman, and Azusa Pacific with 23 points. 

The women along with the men made a big push in the final day to finish 8th behind yet another strong performance from freshman Evelyn Beguiristain who finished 44th in the 200 back with a time of 2:19.29 and then followed that up with a 17th place finish in the 200 fly with a time of 2:12.10. 

In the final event of the day, Haley Von Schottenstein, Carsen West, Beguiristain, and Erin Bartholomew finished in 17th place in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:44.97 and that helped solidify their 8th place finish.        

The Rebels of UNLV posted 836 total points on the women's side, while Northern Arizona was second (447), New Mexico State third (443) and Northern Colorado fourth (273).

Whittier returns home to California tomorrow and will have the holidays off and will return to their newly renovated facility next week which is slated to open December 29th.  Their next meet will be on the road in 2012 on January 7 against Claremont-M-S beginning at 11am.
