LA MIRADA, Calif. – The women's tennis team got back to their winning ways as they rolled past the Eagles of Biola university 7-2 Saturday morning.

The match was originally scheduled for February 28 but due to inclement weather it had to be rescheduled.  Whittier now moves to 3-1 on the season with the victory and have now won two straight contests against the Eagles.

The Poets started the morning off sweeping doubles giving up a combined one game at No. 2 and No. 3 but ran into a battle at No. 1 but the duo of Maegan Zamilpa and Liliana Serylo were able to pull out the tight 8-6 match to put Whittier up 3-0 going into singles.

In singles action, sophomore Benay Weintraub was forced to withdraw at No. 4 due to an injury and that forced Bree Campanero and Lauren Gelgur to move up a spot in the lineup.  At the top three singles spots, the Poets saw Zamilpa, Serylo, and Adrienne Hamada cruise to easy victories surrendering three games total.

Gelgur, after moving into the No. 5 slot still saw her game not skip a beat as she won 6-0, 6-1 but Campanero fell upon hard times at No. 4 falling 6-3, 6-2 giving Biola their second point.

Whittier returns home next week on Tuesday, March 5 when they open up a nine game home stand beginning with Ohio Northern with the match time set for 4:00pm.
