WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College women's tennis team saw their two match winning streak snapped Monday evening as they fell 8-1 to No. 8 DePauw University.

Freshman Maegan Zamilpa was the lone Poet who grabbed a win taking No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-1 over Maggie Macphail.

DePauw jumped out quickly taking all three doubles 8-2, 8-2, 8-0 but was pushed in singles at No. 2, No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5.

Junior Liliana Serylo kept the match close in the first set but was broken late to drop 7-5 before falling 6-1 in the second.  Adrienne Hamada also pushed her opponent in Claire Marshall but was unable to get both breaks back in each set falling 6-4, 6-3.

Sophomore Benay Weintraub found herself up against a grinder at No. 4 who continually kept the ball in play no matter what and despite forcing a second set tiebreaker Weintraub was unable to grab the win falling 6-3, 7-6 (3).

Bree Campanero saw the same outcome as Weintraub losing in a second set breaker at No. 5.  Her opponent grabbed a late break in the first set to win 6-4 before falling 7-6(3) in the second.

Whittier returns to the court this afternoon, March 26 when they host Willamette beginning at 3:00pm.
