VENTURA, Calif. – Four Poets took part in the Ojai Championships this past week as the Whittier College Women's Tennis team began preparations for the SCIAC Championships coming up this weekend.

Venezia Moyano (Riverside, Calif.), Kindall Yeung (Fullerton, Calif.) and Amanda Rodriguez (Glendora, Calif.) all took part in singles but couldn't get past their first round opponents.

Moyano took on Angelica Zhou from Caltech falling 6-0, 6-0, Yeung faced the similar fate against the No. 6 seed Arianna Chen from Pomona-Pitzer, while Rodriguez kept it close early but fell late 6-3, 6-0 to Kana Moriyama from Caltech.

Doubles proved much better for the Purple & Gold in the afternoon.  Moyano and Rodriguez teamed up to take on the No. 4 seed Emily Chen and Joy Kim from Pomona-Pitzer but they fell 6-0, 6-2.

But the match of the weekend came from Yeung and Madeleine Schmidt-Perez (San Marino, Calif.) who opened with a three set victory over Jovana Milosevic and Djurdijina Vorhovac from Hope International winning 4-6, 6-1, 12-10.  But their Quarterfinal match-up proved tough as they ran into the No. 3 seed of Caroline Casper and Arianna Chen from Pomona-Pitzer falling 6-1, 6-0.
