WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Tennis Team got their first test in 2019 with an exhibition match-up against Concordia. They battled in doubles but couldn't pull off the upset falling 9-0 at the Richard Ettinger Tennis Courts.
Madeline Schmidt-Perez (San Marino, Calif.) and Avery Turner (Austin, TX) teamed up at No. 2 doubles and won the opening game and had opportunities after that but couldn't convert as they fell 8-1. Kallysta Lopez (Whittier, Calif.) and Stacey Bendanillo (Brawley, Calif.) started off strong at No. 3 but also couldn't convert late as they fell 8-3. The match of the day though occurred at No. 1 where Kindall Yeung (Fullerton, Calif.) and Amanda Rodriguez (Glendora, Calif.) pushed Taylor Lau and Lisa Suzuki to a breaker but couldn't complete the upset falling 8-7 (7-4).
In singles, Concordia continued to roll dropping two games total between No. 4-No. 6 singles. Rodriguez pushed Suzuki at No. 2 falling 6-3, 6-1 and Yeung provided a threat for Lau falling 6-4, 6-2 at the top spot.
