Whittier wraps up SCIAC Championships with sixth place finish

REDLANDS, Calif. - The Whittier women's track and field team placed sixth at the 2012 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships and finished sixth in the overall standings.
The Poets totaled 40 points to finish in the sixth place in the SCIAC standings and were just a mere six points away from the fifth place team in Occidental.
Junior Alyssa Sialaris again led the charge for the Poets taking home 36 points herself as she won the hammer and discus, while placing 2nd in the javelin and shot put. She resets her records in the hammer with a throw of 160' 0" and shot put with a 43' 10.75" effort.
Claudia Munoz placed 6th in the shot put with a 31' 4" effort to land on the all-conference team for the first time, while Christine Verduzco placed 6th in the 5000m with a time of 17:50.76 to set the school record and garner an all-conference selection.
Eva Aguilar wrapped up the Poet scoring with a 5th place finish in the 3000SC to also earn all-conference recognition. Others who finished strongly included Nicole Leon who placed 8th in the 400, Molly Litherland who took 7th in the 800,Adrianna Davideck who placed 9th in the 5000 and 7th in the 3000SC, Jaclynn Eck who placed 8th in the high jump and the 4X400 relay team of Litherland, Leon, Mary Brzezinski, andCarolyn Newswanger who came in 7th with a time of 4:09.72 to enter the No. 2 slot on the Whittier College all time record list.
Up next for Whittier is the Oxy Invitational, which will take place this coming Saturday on May 5 beginning at 10:00am before wrapping up their regular season schedule at CLSA Last Chance hosted by Cal State Los Angeles beginning at 10:00am as well.
