Women’s Track & Field takes part at Westmont Classic

MONTECITO, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Track & Field team prepped for their upcoming SCIAC No. 2 Dual Meet this past weekend as they took part in the Westmont Collegiate Classic.

Anahy Covarrubias (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Julissa Tobias (Norwalk, Calif.) led the distance events with a 2:17.64 (1st) and 2:22.50 (4th) in the 800 Meter, each respectively to move into 4th and 6th within the SCIAC currently.  In the 1500 Meter they swapped positions as Tobias took 1st with a 4:45.92, while Covarrubias grabbed 3rd (4:53.68).  This time for Tobias puts her 4th in SCIAC right now.

In the 100 Hurdles, Piper Lowinger (Whittier, Calif.) went 16.18 moving her to 9th in the SCIACKourtney Brodnax (Culver City, Calif.) also performed well in the hurdles going 1:09.42 for 3rd in the 400 Meter Hurdles, which currently puts her 9th in the SCIAC.

In the 100 Meter Dash, freshman Daniella Guardado would excite going 7th with a time of 13.30 and would top the Poet finishers in the 200 Meter with a 12th place finish (28.15).    

Christina Prieto (La Mirada, Calif.) led the throwers with a 30.31m performance in the Discus moving her to 9th in the SCIAC.  She also took 5th in the Shot Put (9.20m).

In the jumps Caroline Pham (La Habra, Calif.) took 11th in the Triple going 8.87m.   

Whittier travels to Occidental College this Saturday, April 1 as they take part in SCIAC No. 2.
