WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College volleyball team will participate in three tournaments and will play a full conference schedule as head coach Ali Oliver officially released the Poets' 2012 season schedule this morning.

WC will open its season on the weekend of August 31st and September 1st at Pomona Pitzer where it will play four teams as part of the Pacific Coast Classic.  The non-conference games will include Colorado College, Alverno College, North Central College, and Colby Sawyer College.

The following weekend on September 7th and 8th, the Poets will travel to Spokane, WA where they will take part in the Whitman Invitational before returning home on September 15 to open up SCIAC play as they host the Bulldogs of the University of Redlands in their home opener.

After playing four of six conference games on the road they then travel to Thousand Oaks, Calif. on October 5 to take on Juniata in game one of a doubleheader where they will take on the Regals of Cal Lutheran in the nightcap.

Then on October 12th and 13th the Poets will hit the road once more for their final tournament where they will take part in the Colorado Invitational in Colorado Springs, CO.

They will then return home to close out the regular season with seven matches, which include six SCIAC matchups and a non-conference meeting against the Banana Slugs of UC Santa Cruz.

This season the Purple & Gold will see a new addition to the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with the adding of the Panthers of Chapman University who will join the SCIAC after being an independent program in Division III.

This past year Chapman swept Whittier both at home and on the road winning three contests by a score of 3-0.
