WHITTIER, Calif. – Whittier College Head Volleyball Coach Chris Duarte-McDermott released his 2018 schedule Monday with a trip scheduled to Atlanta, GA along with taking part in three Invitationals.
He starts his season off on August 31 and September 1 during the Emory Classic where he will take on Maryville (TN), Emory, Illinois Wesleyan, and Saint Benedict. The Purple & Gold return the very next week on September 7-8 only to travel once again this time to Thousand Oaks, Calif. to take part in the Cal Lu Fornia Invitational. Here they will faceoff against Clarkson, Mary Hardin-Baylor, Puget Sound, and Whitman.
Whittier opens up Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play and will have their home opener on September 14 when they host Caltech. After that they go home and away over their next six remaining games in September. The other three home contests include Chapman (Sept. 21), Cal Lutheran (Sept. 25), and Claremont-M-S (Sept. 29).
The Poets open October competition with six straight road games. They begin with Redlands on October 2 before traveling to the La Verne Invite on October 5-6 to take on UC Santa Cruz, DeSales, Mass.Boston, and Nazareth. Their last game of the road trip will be against Caltech on October 9.
The Graham Athletic Center welcomes back the Poets on October 12 in a big SCIAC showdown with Occidental during Homecoming Weekend and then go home and away once again with the six remaining SCIAC contests.
Senior Night will occur on October 27 against Redlands.
In 2017 the Poets posted an 18-10, 10-6 SCIAC record and advanced to the NCAA Division III National Championships where they fell in four sets to Southwestern (TX).
