2012 ACWPC Women’s Water Polo All-American Teams Announced

WHITTIER, Calif. – Katrina Thoreson, Mattie Winkler, and Samantha Pudwill, added to their resumes this week as they were named Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-Americans. 

A year after earning All-American Honorable Mention Honors, Thoreson turned the tide and capped off a sensational senior season by grabbing 2nd Team recognition, while Winkler and Pudwill earned Honorable Mention.

Thoreson, a senior utility player from San Diego, CA received honorable mention honors in 2010 and 2011 and completed her last year with the Poets breaking the career scoring record tallying 249 goals, 23 more than Caroline Galvin who now sits in second place with 226. 

She completed the 2012 season with 71 goals on 182 attempts to go with 24 assists, 66 drawn ejections, and 63 steals.  She is also currently in the top 5 in single season scoring (65) and assists (38). 

Winkler, a junior goalie from Mill Valley, CA for the second straight year earns Honorable Mention Honors and wraps up 2012 with a combined 182 saves and collected 29 steals to go along with 6 assists.  She is currently in the top 5 in single season goalie blocks (261) and is on her way to setting the career record, which is held by Sara Kisselbach with 783.  

Pudwill who joined the Poet squad in her first season under the tutelage of her older brother Justin completed a stellar freshman year by earning All-American Honorable Mention honors by playing in the whole set position and compiling impressive numbers, which included 40 goals on 79 attempts, two assists, 40 drawn ejections, and 13 steals.
