LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Water Polo team wrapped up their 2017 regular season schedule Saturday as they spoiled Occidental College's Senior Day winning 14-7 at Taylor Pool.

With the win, the Poets keep their winning streak intact at seven games and has kept their Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) winning streak together at 19 games, which spans to last year from the 2015-16 season when they won the SCIAC Championship Title.

The Poets finish the regular season at 17-14, 8-0 SCIAC and go into the SCIAC Championships as the top ranked team followed by Pomona-Pitzer (No. 2), La Verne (No. 3), and Cal Lutheran (No. 4).

The Tigers fell in an early hole following Whittier scoring on their first three possessions all coming on power plays.

The defensive unit for the Purple & Gold continued to apply strong pressure limiting the opportunities for Oxy throughout the contest as they jumped out to a 6-1 lead after the first quarter.

Oxy attempted to come back going up against the reserves of the Poets but were still outscored 8-6 the rest of the way.

Zyania Morales (Commerce, Calif.) led the Poets with five goals.  Full scoring recap to follow.

Whittier begins preparations for the SCIAC Championships, which will take place next weekend April 21-23 hosted by the University of La Verne at Las Flores Park.  The Poets will take on the winner of the play-in game between Occidental College and Caltech.
