WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Water Polo team ended the regular season Wednesday night against Occidental College winning 9-2 to keep a firm hold on 4th Place within the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Standings.

Whittier now sits and waits to see if they enter the SCIAC Post Season Tournament as the No. 4 seed.  Chapman plays Pomona-Pitzer tomorrow, Saturday, April 21 and their playoff berth all rests on that result.

The Poets end the regular season 9-16, 7-7 SCIAC, while winning two of their last three.

It was a slow start for Whittier earning just one goal in the first half, which came from Lindsay Shoaff (Costa Mesa, Calif.) to start the game as WC saw themselves trailing 2-1 at the break.

But in the second half the momentum swung and the Poets took it to the Tigers blanking them 8-0 over the final 16:00 minutes.  Whittier tacked on four goals in each period, while posting the shutout.  Anastacia Gonzalez (Montebello, Calif.), Hannah Rodriguez (Riverside, Calif.), and Shoaff would start the run and Anaissa Paul (Chula Vista, Calif.), Bianca Vera (Los Angeles, Calif.), and Kayanna Heffner (Bend, OR) would end the game.

Noa Cravens (Laie, HI) played all 32:00 minutes collecting three saves and four steals.

Whittier outshot Occidental 27-9 and was 1-4 on power plays.  The Poets also won three of four sprints coming from three different players.
