Six Poets earn All-SCIAC All-Academic Recognition
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced their All-Academic Team for women's cross country and Whittier College had six players earn this honor for 2011.
These players include Jessica Serrano, Michele Callaway, Claribel Solorio, Alyssa Fluss, Jamie Slingluff, and Candace Wray.
The All-Academic Team is made up of student-athletes who have at least a 3.40 cumulative grade point average at his/her current institution, must have completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution, and must have reached sophomore athletic eligibility. In the case of transfers, graduate students, and two-year college graduates, the student-athlete must have completed one full calendar year at the nominating institution.
Earlier in the year the Whittier College women's cross country team earned All-Academic status from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association and demonstrated once again how academic and athletic achievements are compatible pursuits. The nineteen member team posted a collective GPA high enough (3.23) to earn recognition among cross country's academic elite.
The women's cross country team concluded the season 2nd in the SCIAC, 3rd in the West Region, and nationally ranked throughout the season reaching as high as No. 26.
