Men's Basketball Splits a Pair in Beaver/Poet Classic, Gibson '08 Scores 38 in Two Games

Marcus Gibson '09 scored 38 points in two games as tournament co-host Whittier College went 1-1 in the Beaver/Poet Thanksgiving Classic on November 25-26.  The Poets' first game was an 81-72 loss to Whitworth College (WA) on Nov. 25, but the Poets returned to Whittier the next day to defeat La Sierra University 78-62. 

Caltech hosted day one of the Classic in Pasadena, Calif.  The teams traveled to Whittier for day two.  The Beavers lost 78-32 to La Sierra in game one and 83-30 to Whitworth in their second game.

Donovan White '10 led the Poets with 19 points and four assists against Whitworth.  He  was six-of-nine from the field and made five three-pointers.  Jeff McLean '09 added 17 points and pulled down a game-high eight rebounds.  Gibson finished with 14 points, hitting four from behind the arc.

In the win over La Sierra, Gibson poured in a game-high 24 points and for the second time in as many games, hit four three-point shots.  Jonathan Saucedo '10 scored ten points and Anthony Taylor '07 added eight points and a game-high nine rebounds.
