Whittier College earned their first victory of the year with a 3-0 (30-20, 30-21, 30-22) win over Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Occidental College on September 26.  The Poets are now 1-8 overall and 1-2 in the SCIAC, while Occidental falls to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in SCIAC play.

Bibi Gonzales '08 led the Poets with ten kills and added 12 digs and two service aces.  Jessica Schlegel '08 recorded team-highs with 17 digs and five service aces.  Lisset Madgaleno '10 filled the stat sheet with six kills, three service aces, three block solos and a block assist.  Christa Rainville '08 finished with 29 assists and six digs.  Danell Booher '09 had eight kills and seven digs. 

The Poets held a 33-21 advantage in kills and and a 12-3 edge in service aces.  Whittier has won the last five meetings between the two teams.
