Whittier Earns First Victory, Gebhardt gets first career win

Four Poets scored a goal to give first-year head coach Max Gebhardt his first first career victory, with a 4-1win on the road against La Sierra University on September 8.

Ben Stockler '07, Jon Lee '07, Reggie El Bassiouni '07 and Dan Roe '08 each scored goals to lead the Poets in the 4-1 win.  The Poets outshot the Golden Eagles 28-11.  Cody Sowa '10 and Michael Read '10 split time in goal once again, each making three saves.

After an uneventful 30 minutes of soccer, the Poets exploded for three goals in less than thirteen minutes to take a commanding lead into the break.  Stockler got things started with a penalty kick goal in the 31st minute.  Lee added his goal in the 39th minute and just four minutes later, El Bassiouni found the back of the net for the Poets.  The Golden Eagles got on the board in the 59th minute on a penalty kick, but could muster nothing more.  Roe put on the finishing touches late in the game, slipping one past the LSU keeper in the 83rd minute, solidifying the 4-1 victory.

The Poets next game is on September 14 against La Sierra once again, this time at the friendly confines of the Donald E. Graham Soccer Field.  Kickoff is at 7pm.
