Vernon Covington '08
scored a team-high 16 points, but Whittier College
lost 66-65 to Chapman University at Graham Athletics Center on
January 3. The Poets have lost three in a row as
their record falls to 6-5.
Covington was 6-of-11 from the field in 31 minutes of
action. Raphael Farlough '08 and Tim
Fanning '07 each scored eleven points for the Poets.
Fanning finished the game with three three-point field
goals.
In a game that was a battle from the start, the Poets shot 47
percent in the first half to take a 35-26 lead at
halftime. Whittier was ahead by nine with less than
two minutes remaining when Chapman went on a 10-0 run to finish the
game. Three Poet turnovers contributed to the Panther's three
three-pointers that propelled them to the comeback win.
